LAG-Bornholm 2007-13
The local action group for Bornholm has aprox. 150 members and was founded on June 21, 2007. Any resident on the islands of Bornholm and Christiansø can join the action group and provide input to the organisation's work. Membership is free. The framework for and the purpose of the action group is described in a strategy plan (Developmental strategy, in Danish) for local development, which was approved by the action group's first general assembly.
LAG-Bornholm focuses on eight elements, the so-called 'beacons', in order to further an attractive environment and a living local community all on the entire island - all year round!
The eight beacons are:
* The Arts and Crafts Island
* Quality food products from the region
* Creative work communities. Houses for small trade and industry
* Bornholm as health island
* Bornholm self-reliant on renewable energy
* Active use of nature on Bornholm
* Local development and community participation
* Fish, sea and port: development of fishing in experience economy
The intention is that each of the eight beacons should sustain a positive environment for development projects within its particular theme. The beacon is a bearing point for a number of individual and very diverse projects. With this model LAG-Bornholm intents to create a cohesion between the beacons.
LAG-Bornholm wants to strengthen local community and be an impetus to rural development. This will be achieved in close cooperation with residents, trade and business, local interest groups, NGO's and governemnt organisations, among others. Anyone can join LAG-Bornholm, if they wish to drive local development of trade and business forward, create new jobs or better the living conditions on the islands.
Participatory democracy is strengthened as the residents in the rural districts and fishing communities through LAG-Bornholm get the opportunity to decide which projects that should be carried into effect with a subsidy from the EU and the Ministry of Foods, Agriculture and Fisheries.
